Summary
The Equipment Technician is responsible for inspecting agricultural, construction and turf machinery and conducting preventative maintenance and repairs, based on a strong working knowledge of farm machinery and gasoline, diesel and electrically powered motors. He or she will execute basic care, diagnose complex problems and plan and execute repairs, ordering necessary parts and supplies as required. This individual will make recommendations to clients based upon observed problems and or practical maintenance requirements. Other duties will be assigned as necessary.
Job Duties
Test to check whether systems and components are secure and are working properly.
Isolate the systems or components that might have caused the problem.
Operate equipment for testing purposes or diagnose using various equipment, including hand-held and onboard compression gauges or diagnostic computers.
Maintain efficiency and accuracy in diagnosing as well as repairing machinery.
Repair or replace worn parts ahead of equipment breakdown or damage.
Watch or inspect closely parts like hoses, belts, plugs, fuel systems, brakes, and other possible troublesome items.
Review work orders and discuss work with supervisor.
Inspect motors in operation, test motorized equipment systems and components using computerized diagnostic and other testing devices to diagnose and isolate faults.
Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of Farm Equipment systems including fuel system, brakes, steering and suspension, engine and drive train, emission control and exhaust, cooling and climate control, and electrical and electronic systems using hand tools and other specialized Farm Equipment repair equipment.
Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's performance specifications.
Perform scheduled maintenance service.
Advise customers on work performed, general equipment condition and future repair requirements.
Inspect and test mechanical units, such as engines, transmissions, axles and brake systems to locate faults and malfunctions.
Diagnose faults or malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace unit.
Test and adjust units to specifications for proper performance.
Perform work at customer locations.
Complete reports to record problems and work performed.
Other duties as necessary.
Requirements
Possess at a minimum a High School Diploma or GED equivalent; a bachelor’s degree from a recognized University or College is preferred.
Equipment Technician trade certification preferred.
Graduates from John Deere TECH schools an asset.
Extensive knowledge of various farming equipment and their service needs.
Ability to learn new technology and repair and service procedures and specifications.
Proficiency with electronic diagnostic equipment.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Exceptional verbal communication and presentation skills.

Salary: $22.00-$32.00 per hour
